Job summary

The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company is seeking an Entry-Level Engineer in Charleston to support project management tasks and field operations. You will report to a Project Manager or Superintendent and assist in coordinating with owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors to keep projects on schedule and within budget.

Responsibilities include reviewing drawings and specifications, tracking costs, and addressing field issues and change orders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline, Engineering Technology or Construction Management, Construction Technology.
• Knowledge of engineering principles.
• Knowledge of basic business principles sufficient to project and monitor expenses.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel.
• Ability to read and understand technical specifications, blueprints, technical manuals, product/material installation instructions and engineering/architectural drawings.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
• Experience with construction projects, mechanical/electrical systems, building materials, building mechanics or working with craft workers.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate work with project owner representatives, architects, engineers, inspectors, and site subcontractors and/or direct the work of all trades on site.
• Manage estimating and bidding processes and track costs to handle project budgets.
• Resolve and clarify design issues.
• Identify and resolve field issues and change orders.
• Write contracts and purchase orders documenting all ordered work and costs.
• Attend meetings to coordinate work and manage labor concerns.
• Ensure work meets quality standards and contract specs.
• Implement project schedules for all tasks to project completion.
• Document the technical, financial and personnel aspects of each project.
• Review drawings, specs, submittals and change orders.
• Review each trade’s progress against project phases.
• Provide field support to superintendents to ensure contract compliance and quality control.
• Track milestone completion and project phase progress.
• Set expectations for safe site management.
• Document each phase of the project.
