Job summary

UES, Inc. seeks a dependable Concrete Laboratory Technician for its Houston laboratory team. This entry-level role offers hands-on work in testing concrete cylinders to ASTM standards.

No prior lab experience required as training is provided, with emphasis on accuracy, safety, and documentation. You will support CMT operations by receiving, logging, labeling, curing, and testing specimens, and by communicating results to engineers and field personnel.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical coursework in engineering, geology, construction science, or related field preferred.
• 0-3 years of experience in construction materials testing or geotechnical laboratory work; prior lab experience preferred but not required.
• Commitment to safety and proper PPE usage per OSHA and lab protocols.
• Basic computer proficiency (Excel, Word, Outlook) and familiarity with data collection software preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret procedures, manuals, and technical reports related to testing and lab protocols.
• Mathematical skills to perform basic calculations with units of measure.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine lab testing on construction materials (soil, concrete) per ASTM, AASHTO, and applicable standards.
• Ensure testing requirements meet project specifications and company policies.
• Accurately document and report test results with organized records.
• Assist with sample preparation, handling, and proper storage to maintain integrity.
• Operate laboratory testing equipment and follow safety procedures (PPE).
• Communicate test results and sample status to lab supervisors and field personnel.
• Support lab team, field technicians, and project managers as needed.
