Job summary

IBM's Hardware and Systems group seeks an Entry Level Hardware Developer in New York. You will design, prototype and validate next-generation compute systems across mechanical, electrical, firmware and materials engineering.

Responsibilities include CAD-based design and testing, DOE-driven process improvements, and building automation and data-analysis tools. Hybrid work at Hopewell Junction or Poughkeepsie is offered.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED is required; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• B.S. or advanced degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Materials, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering or related field.
• Experience with DOE and/or project management.
• Hands-on hardware design experience with CAD tools or modeling/simulation.
• Proficiency in Python, C/C++, or Bash.
• Strong analytical and communication skills; data-driven problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Design, prototype, and validate next-generation compute systems across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Develop and optimize mechanical, thermal, and electrical components using CAD/EDA tools.
• Build and test hardware prototypes, analyze failures, and drive reliability improvements.
• Model system-level thermal/mechanical performance to improve cooling and manufacturability.
• Create automation, firmware, and data analysis tools for hardware validation and testing.
• Apply DOE methods to evaluate processes and hardware designs.
