Entry Level Civil Engineer
HBC Engineering Company is seeking an Entry Level Civil Engineer to support planning, design, permitting, and construction-phase services for public and private infrastructure projects. This role is well suited for a recent graduate or early-career engineer who wants strong mentorship, broad project exposure, and a clear path toward professional licensure.
Job Summary
The Entry Level Civil Engineer will assist project managers and senior engineers with design development, calculations, permitting support, plan production, and coordination tasks on civil infrastructure assignments. The position offers practical experience across site development, drainage, utilities, transportation improvements, and other multi-discipline projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with site plans, grading plans, drainage calculations, utility layouts, and other engineering design documents
- Prepare technical calculations, quantity takeoffs, exhibits, and plan production support under the direction of senior engineers
- Support permit applications, agency submittals, and responses to review comments from local, county, state, and utility agencies
- Perform hydrologic, hydraulic, stormwater, and utility analyses using firm-approved software and design criteria
- Coordinate with surveyors, utility representatives, architects, landscape architects, and other project disciplines
- Participate in field visits, site observations, and construction support activities to better understand project conditions
- Assist with technical reports, memoranda, specifications, and presentation materials for internal and client use
- Review plans and documents for accuracy, completeness, and consistency before submittal
- Maintain organized project files, markups, and deliverables in accordance with company quality procedures
- Contribute to team proposal efforts through project sheets, resume updates, and other pursuit support as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- 0 to 2 years of relevant experience, including internships or co-op experience on civil infrastructure projects
- Engineer in Training certification or active progress toward FE/EIT completion is preferred
- Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Office, and common engineering calculation or modeling tools
- Foundational understanding of site development, drainage, utilities, roadway design, and permitting processes
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills with close attention to detail
- Ability to learn quickly, work collaboratively, and accept direction while taking on increased responsibility
- Comfort working in both office and field settings, including occasional visits to active project sites
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
