Job summary

State of Washington's Division of Child Support seeks entry-level attorneys to join the Virtual Legal Office as Claims Officer 1-2 (In-Training). You'll begin at Claims Officer 1 under close supervision with structured training in child support law and program administration.

During training (12-24 months), you will review cases, apply procedures, and prepare recommendations; upon completion, you advance to Claims Officer 2.

Qualifications

  • Licensed to practice law in Washington state.
  • Ability to analyze complex case law and statutes.
  • Understanding of administrative procedures and enforcement.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Integrity, confidentiality, and professional judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of case law and regulations governing child support.
  • Represent the department in adjudicative proceedings under relevant laws.
  • Exercise independent judgment to provide equitable relief and settlements.
  • Draft legal documents such as subpoenas, motions, briefs, and responses.
  • Provide procedural guidance to enforcement officers and maintain records.
  • Review case law and policy to support accurate decision-making.
