Job summary

Rochester City School District is seeking an entry level food service worker to assist with the preparation and serving of meals in a school cafeteria. You will perform routine kitchen tasks, clean equipment, and help maintain sanitary dining areas under supervision.

Responsibilities include preparing ingredients, portioning foods, setting up serving lines, and assisting with cashier duties as needed. Training is provided, with emphasis on safety and sanitary practices in a school environment.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of the principles of a balanced diet.
• Working knowledge of NSLP regulations and health requirements.
• Working knowledge of portion control.
• Working knowledge of how to prepare and serve food.
• Working knowledge of safe operation of kitchen equipment.
• Working knowledge of care of china, silver, glassware, and utensils.
• Working knowledge of industrial dishwashers and detergents.
• Working knowledge of cleaning supplies for work areas.
• Ability to follow simple oral and written directions.
• Ability to serve food with sanitary practices.
• Ability to deal effectively with students, faculty and diners.

Responsibilities

• Prepares ingredients for salads, sandwiches, and cold plates.
• Portions and garnishes desserts, salads, and fruits.
• Trims, washes and prepares vegetables.
• Sets up serving lines with condiments and foods.
• Serves food from steam table or line in cafeteria-style operation.
• Washes and sanitizes pots, pans and utensils.
• Cleans and dries silver, china, and glassware.
• Fills sugar bowls and other condiment holders.
• Cleans dining tables and trays in absence of lunchroom aides.
• Operates kitchen appliances and equipment.
• Advises students of well-balanced meals.
• Cleans kitchen and dining areas.
• Serves as cashier on student faculty line.
