Job summary

GPI is seeking an Entry-Level Bridge Engineer to join our transportation team and contribute to the design, inspection, and rehabilitation of bridges and other transportation structures.

You will work alongside experienced engineers on a wide variety of projects, gaining hands-on experience in bridge analysis, structural design, load ratings, condition assessments, and construction support. The role offers exposure to field inspections and the development of planning documents.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a structural or transportation focus from an ABET-accredited program.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire preferred.
• Internship or co-op experience in structural, bridge, or transportation engineering is a plus.
• Basic understanding of structural analysis and bridge design principles.
• Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and transportation engineering standards preferred.
• Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, OpenBridge, LEAP Bridge, SAP2000, or similar engineering software is a plus.
• Ability to work effectively in both office and field environments.
• Willingness to perform field inspections, including climbing ladders, walking uneven terrain, and working near active traffic.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the structural analysis and design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other transportation-related structures.
• Perform engineering calculations and develop design plans, specifications, and construction documents under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Support bridge inspections and condition assessments in accordance with state and federal requirements.
• Participate in field investigations, data collection, and construction site visits.
• Assist with load ratings, rehabilitation studies, and bridge replacement projects.
• Utilize engineering software to prepare designs, models, and technical reports.
• Coordinate with project managers, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
• Review shop drawings, construction submittals, and inspection reports.
• Support the preparation of permit applications and engineering studies.
• Maintain project documentation and assist with schedule and budget tracking.
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes, design standards, and quality control procedures.
