Job summary

Charles River Laboratories is seeking an Animal Care Technician I for the Insourcing Solutions site in Chicago, IL. You will perform daily animal health observations, care duties, and maintain high standards for the health and well-being of research animals.

The role involves record-keeping of breeding/housing details, assisting with restraint and handling, and supporting housing and facility operations as required. Eligibility for ALAT certification is expected upon qualification.

Qualifications

• Associates degree and 6 months of animal handling, care, and husbandry experience.
• Or Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in biology or animal science or related field and zero experience in animal handling, husbandry experience.
• Achieving ALAT certification upon eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily animal health observations and animal husbandry duties including water bottle/line checks, food/water provisioning and cage changes to maintain health of research animals.
• Assist with restraint, handling and manipulation of animal species; may be involved in breeding and weaning procedures.
• Monitor personnel and equipment entry into rooms, operate required equipment and perform general housekeeping as needed.
