Job summary

AV, Inc. seeks an entry level Research Engineer in Adaptive Structures to work at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. You will design, prototype, and rigorously test deployable structures, bridging theory and physical reality to create compact, high-performance mechanisms.

The role involves collaboration with the Air Force Research Laboratory, requires U.S. Citizenship, and a strong background in adaptive structures, materials, and computational modeling.

Qualifications

• This position requires U.S. Citizenship due to government facility access.
• An advanced degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or related technical discipline is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design & Prototype: translate kinematic and folding concepts into functional models with rapid iteration.
• Experimental testing: support test campaigns to evaluate deployment dynamics and structural integrity.
• Material integration: work with composites, additive manufacturing materials and flexible membranes to improve packaging and strength-to-weight.
• Data analysis & communication: instrument prototypes with motion capture/strain sensors and validate finite element models.
