Job summary

The New York State Department of Financial Services is seeking entry-level actuaries to support pricing, solvency and market conduct reviews across the Life, Health and Property Bureaus. You will assist in building actuarial analyses, evaluating reserves, and reviewing rate filings for insurers operating in New York State.

This position requires a bachelor's degree with 24 math/stat/actuarial credits and completion of at least one actuarial exam.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 24 credit hours in mathematics, statistics or actuarial science.
• Successful completion of one actuarial examination from SOA or CAS is required for advancement.

Responsibilities

• Assist in constructing actuarial tables by analyzing data.
• Assist in reviewing actuarial basis of plans and calculating premiums.
• Evaluate premium rates, reserves and liabilities.
• Review methods used to value categories of policies and liabilities.
• Assist in checking the mathematical accuracy of calculations.
• Participate in field examinations of insurers and HMOs.
• Prepare valuation memoranda and review rate submissions.
