Job summary

The City of Phoenix is seeking an Accountant I for the Public Works Administrative Services Fiscal team. This entry-level role applies GAAP, analyzes financial data, reconciles revenue, and processes cash receipts, payables, and CIP entries.

You will support fixed asset management, budget activities, and reporting. Ideal candidates have a bachelor’s in accounting or four years of paraprofessional accounting experience, with strong attention to detail and customer service skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or four years of related accounting experience.
• Experience with accounts payable/receivable and general ledger tasks.
• Ability to learn internal controls and GAAP guidance.

Responsibilities

• Perform regular cash audits at facilities and ensure control compliance.
• Reconcile daily revenue with bank deposits and fix variances.
• Process cash receipts, journal entries, invoices, and CIP entries.
• Prepare manual payment control documents within deadlines.
• Review Travel and Training docs for guideline compliance.
• Serve as petty cash custodian and maintain reconciliations.
• Assist with financial reports and internal control improvements.
