The Accountant II position in the Fire Fiscal Services section is responsible for performing advanced professional accounting work and mid-level procurement responsibilities that support the City's fiscal management and purchasing operations. This position is responsible for analyzing complex financial data, maintaining and updating accounting systems, preparing detailed financial and budget reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and city policies. This role also coordinates and maintains financial record-keeping across the department, and exercises substantial independent judgement. The position oversees and trains accounting and clerical staff, providing guidance on technical accounting matters, fiscal procedures, and the interpretation of regulations. In addition to accounting duties, the position performs purchasing and contract-related functions. Other responsibilities include reviewing requisitions, obtaining and comparing vendor quotes, ensuring compliance with procurement policies, and coordinating purchases of commodities, services, and contract-based items. The role may evaluate vendor performance, research cost-effective purchasing alternatives, and prepare purchase orders within established guidelines. Successful performance requires strong analytical skills, the ability to communicate clearly with vendors and internal staff, and a commitment to integrity, customer service, efficiency, and fiscally responsible decision‑making. The position is also responsible for the maintenance and updating of workflow procedures and conducts regular audits and evaluations of procedures to ensure compliance with City of Phoenix regulations, department operating procedures, and general accepted accounting principles.
Pay Range: $65,894.40 to $102,232.00 annually.
Hiring Range: $65,894.40 to $92,726.40 annually.
