Job summary

South Sound 911 in Tacoma, WA is seeking a public safety dispatcher to handle 911 and non-emergency calls, screening information and transferring calls to law enforcement, fire and medical services calmly and efficiently.

The role requires accurate data entry in a CAD system and clear communication with the public and partner agencies. Training may be provided, and occasional overtime is possible.

Qualifications

• Must be fluent in English and able to understand written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to handle confidential information
• Ability to analyze situations quickly and determine action
• Effective written and verbal communication with the public and agencies

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary link between partner agencies and the public for emergency and non-emergency calls.
• Accurately record information into CAD system.
• Prepare various police and incident reports as required.
• Operate dispatch and communication equipment.
• Provide training and orientation when needed.
• Be prepared to testify in court as required.
• Other duties as assigned.
