Job Description

Jefferson Health and the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center are seeking an accomplished Enterprise-Wide Director of Breast Surgery to lead and expand our integrated, multidisciplinary breast surgery program across the Jefferson Health enterprise. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape clinical excellence, research advancement, and educational innovation in one of the nation's largest and most respected academic health systems.

This position reports to the Chief of Surgical Oncology and will hold a faculty appointment within the Department of Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with institutional leaders across Jefferson’s hospitals and outpatient practices in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion of a residency in General Surgery.
  • Fellowship training in Breast Surgery or Surgical Oncology.
  • Board Certification in General Surgery.
  • Eligible for medical licensure in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
  • At least 7 years of clinical experience in breast surgical oncology.
  • Demonstrated leadership within an academic or large health system.
  • Involvement in clinical trials or translational research is strongly preferred.
  • Reputation for excellence in clinical care, research, or education in breast cancer.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership:
  • Maintain an active clinical practice in breast surgery.
  • Standardize surgical care for breast disease across the enterprise.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, excellence, equity, and accountability.
  • Expand access to multidisciplinary breast care across all Jefferson sites.
  • Represent Jefferson at national and international forums.
Research & Academic Innovation:
  • Oversee and grow the clinical trials portfolio in breast surgical oncology.
  • Collaborate with oncology, pathology, research, and basic science teams to develop translational initiatives.
  • Support NCI core grant activities and develop extramurally funded research programs.
  • Encourage faculty involvement in national organizations and scholarly dissemination.
  • Mentor junior faculty and support academic growth.
Administrative & Strategic Oversight:
  • Work with leadership to define program goals and performance metrics.
  • Participate in tumor boards, quality initiatives, and clinical meetings.
  • Lead recruitment, faculty development, and succession planning.
  • Build and oversee a breast surgery fellowship program.
  • Partner with system leaders on philanthropy, outreach, and DEI initiatives.
About Jefferson’s Breast Health / Surgical Oncology Program

Jefferson’s Breast Health Program offers high-quality, multidisciplinary care across Pennsylvania and New Jersey, with 15 breast surgeons at six accredited hospitals, supported by dedicated staff and services. The program manages nearly 2,000 new breast cancer cases annually, with extensive supportive services and participation in community outreach programs. It boasts a robust research infrastructure, advancing breast cancer care through clinical trials and collaborative research.
