Job summary

Blue Shield of California is seeking a Senior Director of Tax Accounting to lead enterprise tax strategy, compliance, and multi-year roadmaps for the Ascendiun family of companies. You will drive risk management, regulatory adherence, and executive decision support under the VP Controller, shaping tax outcomes across the enterprise.

You will build and mentor a high-performing tax team, collaborate with Finance, Legal, HR, and Treasury, and stay ahead of legislative changes to protect financial

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or related field required or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 12 years of relevant tax/accounting experience.
• Minimum 8 years of prior people management experience with coaching and evaluation responsibilities.
• CPA, CMA or related certification strongly desired.
• Healthcare or insurance industry experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Set and lead enterprise-wide tax strategy, compliance operations, and multi-year roadmap.
• Own enterprise tax risk management and executive decision support across the family of companies.
• Monitor regulatory developments and communicate impacts to leadership and business units.
• Set strategic tax roadmap aligning with long-term business objectives.
• Lead interactions with authorities and manage audits and inquiries.
• Serve as cross-functional tax advisor to Finance, Legal, HR, Treasury, Operations, Payroll, and Technology.
• Benchmark best practices and emerging technology in tax filing.
• Translate opportunities into an automation portfolio with ROI and internal controls.
• Build and develop a high-performing tax team through coaching and accountability.
