Job summary

Erias Ventures in Annapolis Junction, MD seeks a Systems Engineer to administer and secure Linux-based environments supporting mission-critical systems. You will focus on Linux admin, virtualization, automation, and security across multiple environments, using Rocky Linux and RHEL, Ansible/Puppet, and VMware.

Qualifications

• Fourteen (14) years experience as a SE in programs and contracts of similar scope are required.
• Bachelor’s degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline is required; five years of additional SE experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
• CWIP/C2Q Level I required within 90 days of start date.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, and support enterprise Linux-based systems (Rocky Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Linux).
• Linux administration including storage management, interface configuration, hardening, security compliance, and patch management.
• Regular vulnerability scanning, security patching, and IC tool compliance.
• Use Ansible and/or Puppet to automate configuration management and deployments.
• Support VMware environments and VM deployment/lifecycle management.
• Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot Bash scripts for automation.
• Perform root-cause analysis for complex Linux systems and infrastructure.
• Manage hardware deployment and sustainment for field sites.
• Facilitate software deployments and upgrades across environments.
• Monitor system health and performance with enterprise monitoring tools.
• Schedule maintenance windows and coordinate outages with teams and customers.
• Maintain and enhance monitoring services and dashboards.
• Assist with regression, integration, performance, security, and customer acceptance testing.
• Support defect identification and documentation of reproducible issues.
• Utilize GitLab for source control and collaboration.
• Utilize Jira to track work, defects, and project progress.
• Research emerging technologies and evaluate tools to improve efficiency and reliability.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation and engineering procedures.
• Work independently and in teams with strong customer support and communication.

Description

The Systems Engineer will be responsible for administering, maintaining, and securing Linux-based enterprise environments supporting mission-critical operational, development, and test systems. This role focuses on Linux systems administration, configuration management, virtualization, system security, automation, and operational sustainment while supporting hardware deployments, software upgrades, troubleshooting, testing, and customer-facing operations across multiple environments.

• Administer, maintain, and support enterprise Linux-based systems utilizing Rocky Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
• Perform Linux system administration including storage management, interface configuration, operating system hardening, security compliance, and patch management.
• Execute regular system vulnerability scanning, security patching, and compliance activities while maintaining updates within Intelligence Community reporting tools.
• Utilize Ansible and/or Puppet to automate configuration management, operating system deployment, software installation, and ongoing system maintenance.
• Support VMware virtualized environments and assist with virtual machine deployment, configuration, and lifecycle management.
• Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot Bash scripts to automate administrative and operational tasks.
• Perform root-cause analysis and troubleshoot complex Linux systems, applications, and infrastructure issues.
• Manage physical deployment, installation, and sustainment of hardware supporting operational and field sites.
• Facilitate software deployments and upgrades across Operational, Field Test, Development, and Integration environments.
• Monitor system health, availability, and performance across multiple environments utilizing enterprise monitoring tools and health checks.
• Schedule, coordinate, and communicate planned maintenance windows and system outages with internal teams and external customers.
• Maintain and enhance system monitoring services, operational dashboards, and health check capabilities.
• Assist with system regression testing, integration testing, performance testing, security testing, and customer acceptance testing.
• Support defect identification, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and documentation of reproducible issues.
• Utilize GitLab for source control, configuration management, and collaborative development activities.
• Utilize Atlassian Jira to track work activities, defects, enhancements, and project progress.
• Research emerging technologies, evaluate new tools, and provide recommendations to improve operational efficiency, automation, and system reliability.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation including system procedures, operational guides, test procedures, status updates, and engineering documentation.
• Work effectively both independently and within a collaborative engineering team while providing outstanding customer support and technical communication.

Clearance

A current Top-Secret/SCI with polygraph security clearance is required. Candidates cannot be sponsored or nominated for a government security clearance under this position.

Experience

Fourteen (14) years experience as a SE in programs and contracts of similar scope, type and complexity is required. Bachelor’s degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required. Five (5) years of additional SE experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
