Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a skilled IT Monitoring Engineer to ensure performance, availability, and capacity of critical IT services. You will provide 24x7 coverage for the ITOC, design and maintain robust monitoring solutions, and support the ITOC Manager during on‑call rotations.

The role emphasizes strong scripting abilities, experience with SolarWinds or Splunk, and collaboration across teams to drive proactive incident response and capacity planning.

Qualifications

U.S. citizen required.
Pass federal background check and obtain Public Trust.
Bachelors or equivalent experience in CS/Engineering/IT.
3–5 years IT industry experience; 2–4 years in enterprise monitoring (energy sector).
Strong knowledge of IT service management and outages impact.
Proficiency in SolarWinds, Splunk, or similar platforms.
Strong scripting language skills.
Experience providing leadership during incidents and on-call rotations.
Willingness to work rotating shifts including nights/weekends/holidays.

Responsibilities

Ensure performance, availability, and capacity of IT services.
Provide consistent coverage for the IT Operations Center (ITOC) 24x7x365.
Design, implement, and maintain robust monitoring solutions.
Support the IT Operations Control (ITOC) Manager as a deputy during on‑call rotations.
Develop and perform test strategies, maintain monitoring systems, manage performance.
Monitor system performance with observability platforms.
Analyze and identify potential performance issues in software and hardware systems.
Ensure reliability and stability of systems and networks.
Develop and maintain scripts to automate monitoring processes.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand monitoring requirements.
Provide advice on system capacity planning and scalability.
Document monitoring processes, configurations, and procedures.
Maintain technical documentation and disaster recovery plans.
Ensure compliance with cybersecurity best practices.
Stay up to date with industry trends and technologies.

Requirements

Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Must be able to pass federal background investigation and obtain a Public Trust.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
3-5 years’ experience within the information technology industry
2-4 years’ experience in enterprise monitoring within the energy sector or similar industries.
Strong knowledge of IT Service management and the impacts of outages to internal and external services.
Strong working knowledge of SolarWinds, SPLUNK, or similar platforms to configure and customize monitoring processes.
Strong proficiency in scripting languages.
Experience providing leadership support during critical incidents and on-call operations.
Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
