SUMMARY:

The Enterprise Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the administration, optimization, and maintenance of the organization’s database environments. This role ensures the performance, availability, integrity, and security of all critical databases across on-premises and cloud-hosted systems. The DBA works closely with application owners, data analysts, and infrastructure teams to tune SQL performance, improve query efficiency, and implement best practices for database reliability and scalability.

This role supports both operational and strategic database initiatives and collaborates with the Enterprise Architecture team to ensure alignment with design standards and enterprise data strategy.


PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Administer, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise environments (on-premises and cloud).
  • Monitor database performance and proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks through indexing, query tuning, and resource optimization.
  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and views to support application and reporting needs.
  • Implement and maintain high availability, disaster recovery (HA/DR), and backup strategies using tools such as Always On, Log Shipping, and SQL Agent Jobs.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architects to ensure database systems follow standard architecture principles and scalability models.
  • Maintain database security, including user access, encryption, and audit logging, in compliance with security and compliance requirements.
  • Conduct database health checks, capacity planning, and usage trend analysis.
  • Support data migrations, schema changes, and application deployments involving database components.
  • Automate routine tasks through scripting (T-SQL, PowerShell, etc).
  • Provide on-call support for production issues, including root cause analysis and remediation.
  • Experience supporting and optimizing Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise environments; familiarity with other database platforms such as MySQL is beneficial for supporting vendor systems.

COMPETENCY:

  • Deep technical knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise
  • Performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization expertise
  • High availability and disaster recovery planning
  • Security and compliance awareness (role-based access, auditing, data privacy)
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across technical teams
  • Clear documentation and change control discipline
  • Familiarity with Agile or DevOps practices is a plus
  • Working knowledge of other database engines such as MySQL adds flexibility in supporting diverse application stacks.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of experience administering Microsoft SQL Server in an enterprise environment
  • Strong proficiency in T-SQL, execution plans, and query analysis
  • Experience with Always On Availability Groups, replication, and other HA/DR methods
  • Familiarity with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Reporting Services (SSRS), and SQL Agent job management
  • Proven experience optimizing database performance in both OLTP and OLAP environments
  • Exposure to cloud-hosted SQL environments (e.g., Azure SQL, AWS RDS) is a plus
  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale applications with complex database backends

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Microsoft certifications preferred (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, MCSA: SQL Server)
  • Experience working within structured IT frameworks and architecture standards
  • Familiarity with ITIL change management practices is a plus
  • Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g., SOX, HIPAA, GDPR) for data platforms

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Based out of a New Era Office location (FL, IN, NJ, NY, MA, PA) or remote. Travel to other offices as needed.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: Business hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. However, required work hours may vary depending on business needs.

TRAVEL: Up to 10% travel may be required when needed.

Below is the pay range of this position for considered candidates based on qualifications and experience.
