The Medical College of Wisconsin is seeking a business intelligence professional to oversee data warehouse management, ETL processes, and reporting. You will collaborate with administrators, finance, HR, clinical operations, and leadership to ensure data accuracy and actionable insights.
Responsibilities include building data models, dashboards, SSRS reports, and SSAS cubes, while documenting methodologies and supporting end‑users with BI tools and training.
Summary Under general supervision, conduct business requirements review and independently formulate business approaches for providing business intelligence data warehouse management, data design, architecture, repository creation and information presentation. Work closely with business teams (Department Administrators, Accounting, Budgeting/Planning, Clinical Operations, Human Resources, Senior Leaders, etc.) and business intelligence staff to clarify and provide insight into integrating information to support business processes and business decisions. Support the overall information needs of the college in supporting strategic vision and goals. Assure information accuracy for all data presentation purposes. This role provides foundational support for the enterprise BI data warehouse, building and maintaining reports, data models, and analytical tools under the guidance of senior team members and BI leadership.
Perform data migration and data integration tasks such as Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) using SSIS or Qlik data modeling and scripting, limiting manual intervention whenever possible; develop SQL scripts for data acquisition and manipulation across SQL-compliant and other data sources.
Work with senior Enterprise BI staff to ensure data integration tasks meet established accuracy and timeliness standards.
Work with the Data Warehouse team to aggregate data as needed to support the creation of dimensions, facts, and data models.
Work with business users across administration, finance, human resources, clinical, research, and education to clarify and provide insight into integrating information that supports business processes and decisions.
Understand and support business processes and informational needs, translating them into clear, written requirements.
Coordinate data requirement gathering and support business information activities; support coordination with system-specific reporting teams, such as the Workday reporting team, under the direction of senior staff or the manager.
Provide organizational support to operational leaders (administration, finance, human resources, clinical, research, and education) through internal data management, reporting, dashboards, and business analysis.
Construct new and redesign existing SQL scripts and stored procedures, applying a working understanding of dimensions, facts, and data architecture.
Construct new and redesign existing SSRS reports for deployment on the SQL Server Reporting Services platform.
Construct new and maintain SSAS OLAP cubes deployed on SQL Server Analysis Services.
Document application development, including business rules, methodologies, and solutions used in business intelligence deliverables; documentation is expected to be kept current and accessible to the broader BI team.
Perform quality assurance on data management processes, escalating any data discrepancies or quality concerns to senior analysts or the manager in a timely manner.
Coordinate with the Information Services Help Desk to troubleshoot and resolve problems with BI systems.
Apply and build knowledge of the Qlik BI toolset, including data visualization capabilities, to support enterprise reporting needs.
Train end-users on BI solutions and applications.

Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with a collaborative, team-oriented approach. Strong critical and creative thinking skills, with the ability to generate practical, sound solutions to technical and business challenges. High attention to detail and accuracy in data management, reporting, and documentation. Ability to exercise sound independent judgment and decision-making when faced with complex or competing priorities, escalating appropriately when issues exceed the scope of independent judgment. Strong analytical abilities and proficiency with standard business software, including spreadsheets, presentation tools, word processing, databases, and graphics applications. Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams.
Appropriate experience may be substituted on an equivalent basis.
Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Minimum Required Experience: 6 years
Preferred Education: Master’s Degree
Preferred Experience: Computer Science, Information Systems, Technology, Engineering or related field is required in order to understand computer systems principles in relevant technology acquired through a combination of education and experience is required.
Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.
Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment. Sensory Acuity Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
