Job summary

ASM Research, An Accenture Federal Services Company, seeks a Backup and Recovery Specialist, Mid, to administer and optimize enterprise backup and recovery services across a federal IT environment. You will design policies, storage architectures, and recovery workflows to meet business continuity goals.

You will troubleshoot failed jobs, lead complex restores, implement encryption and access controls, and mentor junior staff while coordinating with operations and application teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in IT, computer science, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 4–7 years in data backup and recovery, storage engineering, or related IT infrastructure.
• Hands-on experience with enterprise backup tools (NetBackup, Veeam, Commvault or equivalents).
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with ability to resolve complex backup/recovery issues.
• Experience with monitoring and documenting backup configurations and runbooks.
• Active Secret clearance or ability to obtain and maintain the required investigation level. U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Architect and maintain backup solutions for physical, virtual, and cloud workloads, including policy design, job scheduling, and capacity planning.
• Analyze backup infrastructure performance and tune concurrency, bandwidth usage, and storage tiers to meet recovery targets.
• Perform complex restore operations such as point-in-time recovery and DR exercises.
• Implement and maintain backup encryption, key management, and RBAC.
• Document and test disaster recovery runbooks and coordinate drills with teams.
• Integrate backup systems with monitoring and reporting dashboards for leadership.
• Troubleshoot backup job failures and drive root-cause analysis and remediation.
• Mentor junior staff on data protection, recovery operations, and documentation.
