Enterprise Architect - Healthcare Payer (Remote)

Location: Remote | Client: UPMC Health Plan | Candidates can be in EST or CST. 100% remote.

The Senior Solution Architect will align technology strategy with business strategy across multiple projects. They will lead the creation of best practices, policies, procedures, documentation, and POCs. They are responsible for defining and communicating a shared technical vision across a Solution Train to ensure systems are fit for purpose. They collaborate with solution builders across Agile Release Trains and suppliers.

Responsibilities
  • Leads POC delivery.
  • Design and evolve the technical solution.
  • Manage non-technical requirements and compliance.
  • Maintain the architectural runway.
  • Define and prioritize enablers.
  • Enable continuous delivery.
  • Assesses and recommends complex data acquisition, transformation, data management and data access strategies as needed.
  • Provide assessment and recommendations for scaling an application to enterprise application standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate and orchestrate across customers, partners, and internal engineering teams.
  • Research current and emerging technologies and propose changes where needed.
  • Mentor others within the department.
  • Act as a liaison between customers, partners, internal engineering teams, and support to address customer needs.
  • Build and maintain a network of experts inside and outside the organization.
  • Initiate contacts with key technologists and other subject matter experts and serve as a key contact point for others to initiate communications.
  • Evaluate the quality work of Architects.
  • Identify optimizations for resolving technical debt.
  • Identify problem areas and high‑risk areas in software solutions and recommend resolutions.
  • Assess, define, identify, and create technical specifications to fulfill non‑functional requirements as needed.
  • Evaluate and create non‑code technical artifacts and templates.
  • Provide guidance and advice on rearchitecting solutions for optimal cloud deployments.
  • Analyze and compare competing technologies and recommend solution approaches.
  • Evaluate hardware solutions for compatibility and ease of integration.
  • Address solution approaches for performance improvement and resolve performance bottlenecks as required.
  • Evaluate new technologies for use in support of project goals.
  • Perform due diligence on existing and new software solutions, engineering teams, and deployment infrastructures.
  • Create flexible and resilient solution architectures that address customer business problems.
  • Pair with development team members to accelerate POC development, resolve complex technical challenges, or design and implement new architectural standards.
  • Lead engineering teams by influence and engage in hands‑on development as required.
  • Earn respect within all technology domains through hands‑on engagement.
  • Demonstrate measurable positive impact.
  • Communicate trade‑offs, strategy, and complexity mitigation clearly.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or similar.
  • 10 years of software engineering and/or technical architecture experience.
  • Capable of leading and mentoring a team of individual contributors.
  • Deep technical mastery and business knowledge across at least two relevant domains (APIs, UI, security, cloud, mobile, DevOps, etc.).
  • Ability to apply extensive experience to highly complex problems.
  • Strong understanding of IT strategy and how it relates to business objectives.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and analytical skills, combining technical, business, clinical, and cultural factors.
  • Broad background implementing and supporting various architectures, programming languages, operating systems, and technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and good presentation skills.
  • Ability to direct implementation of diverse technologies within a complex organization.
  • Diplomatic and interpersonal skills that lead others to provide input for planning or implementation.
  • Experience innovating beyond the state of the art.
  • Maximizes technical efficiency and sets technical direction.
  • Healthcare IT experience highly preferred.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Azure Solution Architect/Engineer/Practitioner, FHIR, SCRUM) is a plus.
  • Experience in software development and coding in various languages (C#, .NET, Java, etc.).
  • Excellent knowledge of software and application design and architecture.
  • Strong expertise in DevOps, CI/CD, Scrum, and SAFe.
  • Experience with container technologies is a plus.
  • Understanding of microservice design and architectural patterns.
