A direct report of the CIO, the Enterprise Architect serves as internal consultant, strategist, and tactician in defining, recommending, and implementing the next generation architecture and infrastructure needed to support deployment of web-based, interactive, innovative insurance policy administration systems. There will be occasional client facing & industry conference attendance and these items are expected to be fewer than 10% of time utilization in role.
This role is for a pragmatic architect—someone who can produce an architecture and immediately implement through engaged leadership, balancing business value with technical purity. This is not an ivory tower or white paper role.
The goals of the role include defining the enterprise architecture of the entire platform, ensuring rich insurance functionality while ensuring capacity, resiliency, scalability, security, and flexibility.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies; architect solutions that meet the organization’s short- and long-term objectives. This will include, but is not limited to, development of future state architecture recommendations with tools & technologies to instantiate.
- Partner with the CIO and other key stakeholders in planning, budgeting, and resourcing for a lab-based technology team who will develop the next generation application & underlying infrastructure based upon the architecture.
- Assess infrastructure and environment needs on projects and systems and recommend architectural solutions.
- Conduct and lead infrastructure design, including logical design, server topology, and environment placement.
- Perform infrastructure capacity planning and ensure system environments are adequately scalable for anticipated growth and availability.
Requirements
- Minimum of 12+ years of IT experience in an insurance administration or related environment (Group and Individual Life, Health, Annuity, and Hybrid products) and 2 years of senior-level Systems Analyst–related experience.
- Expert level technical and domain experience in JEE/J2EE & all associated Java tools, design patterns, technologies, etc.
- 4+ years of experience designing, specifying, deploying, supporting, and managing complex technology solutions in an insurance environment.
- Experience in migrating from heterogeneous technology environments to state-of-the-art environments.
- Proficient in installing and administering large-scale server environments.
- Experience architecting, designing, and deploying environments for global web-based systems.
- Experience delivering infrastructure solutions in secure environments.
- Knowledge of infrastructure security methods, including firewalls, proxies, encryption, PKI, PGP, security zoning, and security appliances.
- Proven internal and external consultative skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate both verbally and written to all levels of staff and business clients, varying language and technical skills.
- Demonstrated project management and mentoring competencies.
- Presentation and facilitation skills.
- Strong system analytical and troubleshooting skills in distributed secure computing environments.
- Some travel required (less than 5%).
Compensation for this role will be commensurate with experience.
