Job summary

Ashley Furniture seeks a highly technical engineering leader to partner with the CTO, shaping Ashley's AI-first technology strategy and architecture. You will drive modernization across software, platforms, and delivery, mentor senior engineers, and steer complex initiatives spanning retail tech, digital commerce, manufacturing, and AI platforms.

You will work hands-on with architecture reviews, code reviews, proofs of concept, and cross-functional collaboration to accelerate engineering

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience building enterprise software platforms and distributed systems.
• Hands-on coding experience across multiple languages.
• Experience with Python, Java, .NET, Go, or similar language.
• Cloud expertise with Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or similar platforms.
• Kubernetes, Docker, and container orchestration.
• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar).
• CI/CD platforms and modern software delivery practices.
• Enterprise integration and distributed system design.
• Security architecture and identity management.
• High-availability and resilient system design.

Responsibilities

• Define Ashley's long-term technology vision in partnership with the CTO.

About the Role

We're looking for a highly technical leader who enjoys solving ambiguous problems, challenging conventional thinking, and helping shape the future of software engineering.

Reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer, you'll serve as one of Ashley's highest-level individual contributors, partnering with executive leadership and engineering teams across the company to define technology strategy, influence architecture decisions, and modernize how software is designed, built, deployed, and operated.

This role is equal parts architect, engineer, strategist, mentor, and innovator.

One day, you may be whiteboarding enterprise architecture with the CTO. The next, reviewing production code with engineering teams, building a proof of concept, evaluating emerging AI technologies, or helping solve one of the organization's most complex technical challenges.

What You'll Do

Shape the Technology Strategy

Partner directly with the CTO to define Ashley's long-term technology vision.

• Challenge assumptions and propose innovative technical solutions
• Evaluate architectural tradeoffs and drive technology decisions that scale with the business
• Define engineering principles, reference architectures, and technical standards
• Help determine where emerging technologies—including AI—can create meaningful business value

Help Build an AI-First Engineering Organization

Technology is central to Ashley's future.

• You'll help lead the transformation of how software is developed across the company by evaluating and introducing modern AI capabilities that improve developer productivity, engineering workflows, and business outcomes.
• You'll work alongside the CTO to help shape the future of autonomous software development, intelligent engineering platforms, and AI-enabled software delivery.

Solve the Company's Hardest Technical Problems

Partner with engineering teams across the organization to tackle complex technical challenges. Depending on business priorities and your expertise, you'll influence initiatives spanning:

Accelerate Engineering Teams

You'll serve as a trusted technical advisor across the engineering organization.

What We're Looking For
