Job summary

QofAI is seeking a senior technologist to own how AI solutions are designed for real client environments. You will align with forward-deployed engineers, value creation leads, and client management to ensure shipments meet product requirements and run in production, not just in demos.

This role requires CTO/CIO-level experience, hands-on coding, and a track record of delivering production systems at scale. You will guide architecture, discuss tradeoffs with clients, and drive end-to-end

QofAI brings elite consulting and forward-deployed engineering to the middlemarket — turning artificial intelligence into measurable EBITDA growth acrossevery deal, portfolio, and business. We sit where strategy meets software: workingalongside investors and operators, finding where AI actually moves the numbers, andthen building the systems that get it there.

That means the architecture here has to hold up in the real world. The systems youdesign go into real companies with real constraints, and you get to watch them work,or learn fast when they don't.

The role

You'll own how QofAI's solutions get designed to fit the companies we build them for.You sit between our forward-deployed engineers, our value creation leads, and themanagement teams at client companies, making sure what we ship matches the productrequirements and actually runs in the client's environment, not just in a demo.

This is a senior role for someone who has carried CTO or CIO-level responsibility andwants to stay close to the build. You'll set technical direction across engagementswhile keeping your hands close enough to the work to catch the things that only show upin the details.

• Translate product requirements into architecture that works inside a specificclient's systems, data, and security setup.
• Review what the FDE teams are building and steer the design before problems getexpensive to fix.
• Sit with client CTOs, CIOs, and their teams as the person who can speak toarchitecture at their level and earn their trust.
• Work with value creation leads to decide which solutions are worth building and whatit will take to make them stick.
• Set standards and patterns the FDE teams can reuse across clients, so we are notsolving the same problem twice.
• Spot where a client's existing stack will fight us, and plan around it early.
• Make the calls on build versus buy, where to integrate, and how to keep things runningafter we hand them off.
• Help the engineering, data, and product teams line up against what clients actuallyneed.

What we're looking for

We care about judgment built from having done this before, at scale and under realpressure. We're looking for someone with 10 or more years of experience who:

• Has held CTO, CIO, or principal/enterprise architect responsibility, and has the scarsto show for it.
• Still writes and ships code, and has a clear history of doing it. We want someone whobuilds, not someone who only draws the diagram and hands it off.
• Has designed and shipped systems that ran in production at real companies, not just onslides.
• Can walk into a client's environment, understand their stack quickly, and tell whatwill and won't work.
• Knows how to talk to a management team about technology without losing them, and howto talk to engineers without slowing them down.
• Has strong opinions about architecture but holds them loosely enough to fit the clientin front of them.
• Can move between setting direction and getting into the details, and knows when eachone matters.
• Communicates plainly, in writing, in a room, and in the design itself.

Nice to have

• A background across more than one industry, so you recognize the patterns and thetraps.
• Comfort with modern cloud and data stacks (AWS, Postgres, Docker, and the like).
• Experience building data-heavy or AI products, and a real sense of where AI helps andwhere it doesn't.
• Time spent in or around private equity or other fast-moving operating environments.
• A track record of handing off systems that kept working after you left.

This role is open remote and from any of our three HQs — the San Francisco BayArea, Pittsburgh, and Austin — with travel to client sites as the workdemands.
