Venable LLP seeks an Enterprise Applications Engineer III focused on M365 and Collaboration Platforms to assess current utilization, define standards, and govern M365 services across the Firm’s productivity tools.

The role requires 5+ years of hands-on M365 experience, governance leadership, and migration planning for OneDrive/SharePoint, with strong collaboration across IT leadership and legal stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Five+ years of hands-on Microsoft 365 experience across Teams, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive for Business.
• Experience leading design, implementation, and governance of M365 collaboration solutions at enterprise scale.
• Experience establishing or maturing a Microsoft Purview program (data discovery, classification, labeling, DLP).
• Experience planning large-scale migration of on-premises file shares to OneDrive for Business / SharePoint Online.

That’s why we’re looking for an Enterprise Applications Engineer III (M365 and Collaboration Platforms) to assess current utilization, identify capability gaps, and define the technical standards that govern how M365 services are built and consumed across the Firm's collaboration and productivity platforms.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for...

• Serving as a member of the team responsible for implementing the Firm's multi-year Microsoft 365 strategy, working collaboratively with IT leadership and other stakeholders to define direction, including a phased Purview rollout roadmap
• Taking responsibility for the design, implementation and optimization of Microsoft 365 solutions across Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, and additional productivity apps
• Establishing and maintaining the Firm's M365 architecture standards and configuration playbooks (naming conventions, provisioning baselines, permission models) so the platform engineer and support team can operate consistently against a documented standard
• Staying current with Microsoft's roadmap and release cycle; evaluate new capabilities and present recommendations
• Managing the Purview platform, its technical configuration, and its implementation, working closely with the business to set classification standards and data-handling requirements, translating those standards into working taxonomy, labeling, and container‑inheritance design
• In conjunction with peers, planning and helping lead the migration of on‑premises network file shares to OneDrive for Business and SharePoint Online, including discovery/assessment of existing shares, target‑structure design, and a phased migration approach
• Taking an active, hands‑on role in shaping the Firm's Copilot strategy in partnership with the broader Copilot program owners

The successful candidate will demonstrate...

• A minimum of five years of hands‑on Microsoft 365 experience spanning Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive for Business, including direct experience assessing and remediating the underlying foundation of an existing, mature M365 tenant before expanding its capabilities
• Demonstrated experience leading the design, implementation, and governance of M365 collaboration solutions at an enterprise scale
• Direct experience establishing or maturing a Microsoft Purview program (data discovery, classification, labeling, DLP), sufficient to lead that effort through its early build phase and hand it into steady‑state governance
• Demonstrated experience planning and executing a large‑scale migration of on‑premises file shares to OneDrive for Business and/or SharePoint Online
• Working knowledge and implementation experience with Microsoft Copilot for M365
• Strong understanding of Microsoft 365 licensing structures (E3/E5, Copilot, Purview add‑on SKUs) and ability to map license entitlements to business value
• Proven ability to communicate technical capability and options to non‑technical executive and legal stakeholders, in writing and in person
• Experience in a law firm or other privileged/regulated environment, with familiarity with ethical walls, matter‑based access models, and records retention obligations preferred but not required

Pay Range for Candidates in Washington, DC: $140,000 - $155,000 per year

The range provided is the minimum and maximum salary that Venable in good faith believes at the time of this posting that it is willing to pay for the advertised position. Exact compensation will be determined based on individual candidate qualifications and location. Overtime wages earned will be paid in compliance with applicable law.
