Job summary

Kong is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) to accelerate adoption of its API and AI connectivity platform in enterprise environments. You will design and implement Kong-based solutions across cloud, hybrid, and on-prem environments, and lead hands-on migration and automation initiatives with customer engineering teams.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years in customer-facing or platform engineering roles and are proficient with Kubernetes, cloud-native infrastructure, and modern DevOps

Qualifications

• 8+ years in customer-facing engineering, platform engineering, professional services, SRE, or software engineering.
• Strong hands-on software engineering and implementation experience.
• Experience with API gateways, API management, integrations, or distributed systems platforms.

Responsibilities

• Partner with enterprise customers to design, build, and implement Kong-based solutions across cloud, hybrid, and on-prem environments.
• Lead hands-on implementation for API gateways, AI gateways, service mesh, and developer portals.
• Build automation frameworks, migration tooling, and reusable accelerators to simplify adoption and modernization.
• Drive migration initiatives from legacy API management platforms to Kong.
• Collaborate with customer developers, platform teams, architects, security teams, and executives to solve complex challenges.
• Develop production-grade code, scripts, plugins, CI/CD integrations, and Kubernetes automation for engagements.
• Influence roadmap priorities based on real-world feedback and create reusable best practices and reference architectures.
