The Role

Proto is accelerating the world's transition to an open economy with products that increase access and independence for everyone. We're building Proto, hardware and software that will help decentralize bitcoin mining and promote new and innovative use cases for bitcoin mining. We're developing these products in the open - you can read more about them at mining.build. Within Proto, our Bitcoin Products team delivers the product and go-to-market strategy, software, firmware, and custom silicon needed to make Bitkey and our mining initiatives a reality. We're a startup team and an entirely new brand called Proto (proto.xyz) within Block's established Hardware team. The Proto team is on a mission to decentralize bitcoin mining and increase access to tools for builders in the Bitcoin mining industry, regardless of their size or location. We believe the best way to create a stronger Bitcoin network is by improving access to best-in-class semiconductor solutions, hardware, and software that serve the needs of small, medium, and large industrial miners, as well as developers.

Join the Proto Sales team as the founding Account Director in a dynamic role that will manage existing client relationships while maintaining the ability to develop your own pipeline. Reporting directly to the Proto Sales Lead, your role is all about building meaningful partnerships with clients in the Bitcoin Mining industry – understanding their unique needs, creating innovative solutions and promoting them within Proto. You will represent the customer voice and feedback with our product, engineering and operations team. You will be a key to unlocking maximum customer growth potential and translating feedback into product changes.

This role can be based anywhere in the US or Canada with the expectation of approximately 50% travel worldwide with a focus on the USA throughout the year. If you prefer an office environment, we have team-members working in offices in Toronto, and offices in other cities including New York, the San Francisco Bay Area, St. Louis, Atlanta, Philadelphia and other locations.

You will:
  • Grow and retain existing multi-million dollar enterprise customers
  • Seek to deeply understand Bitcoin Mining customer needs to help achieve their business goals through Proto, cross-selling or upselling products based on customer needs
  • Effectively and strategically address customer concerns and issues through high-touch support
  • Partner with current customers on feedback between our operations, engineering and product teams to drive improvement and change within the product
  • Develop and close new business opportunities for bitcoin mining hardware over time
You have:
  • At least 5 years of experience in Sales, Account Management or a related field, within or at the intersection of the fintech, crypto, or hardware sectors. Bonus if within the Bitcoin Mining industry
  • Experience discovering and closing sales opportunities and building client relationships, bonus if you have an existing list of customers
  • Experience successfully managing a pipeline to achieve revenue targets
  • Proficiency in conducting and analyzing user research, including user interviews, online surveys and customer outreach.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills with the ability to engage with C-level executives and decision makers across various functions like engineering, finance, legal and procurement
  • Technical aptitude to explain complex hardware products
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A strong passion for the Bitcoin ecosystem, along with a deep understanding of its market and community.
  • Experience and knowledge of Bitcoin Mining, manufacturers, hardware types and overall economics
  • Experience working with enterprise Bitcoin Mining companies
  • Some experience working as a hunting account executive
  • Chinese language proficiency is a plus

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Pay Zones:

Zone A: $207,900 — $311,900 USD

Zone B: $193,400 — $290,000 USD

Zone C: $183,000 — $274,400 USD

Zone D: $172,600 — $258,800 USD
