Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West is seeking a Medical Assistant (MA) for the Ear, Nose & Throat and Head & Neck Surgery team in Cascade. The role is full-time, 40 hours per week, days shift in an ambulatory setting with no on-call and no weekend duties.

The MA will perform administrative and clinical duties, including vital signs, patient prep, medication administration under supervision, and clerical support. Certification as a MA and BLS by 2025 are required; prior MA experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Current Medical Assistant certification is required.
• BLS certification required by 3/1/2025.
• Previous MA experience preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Ability to communicate with patients and staff with diplomacy.

Responsibilities

• Escort patients to exam room and interview; measure vital signs and document in EMR.
• Review medical records to determine needed services and referrals.
• Assist physicians/APPs during examinations or procedures.
• Provide patient instructions as directed; maintain exam room stock.
• Perform clerical tasks: calls, forms, records, referrals.
• Maintain infection control; clean rooms between visits.
• Administer medications/immunizations under supervision.
• Process messages to physicians and patients; manage callbacks.
• Conduct CLIA-waived tests (ECG, basic labs) and collect specimens.
