Job summary

Heartland Family Service in Nebraska seeks Enhanced Advocates to provide crisis intervention, safety planning, referrals, and information about the criminal justice system. On-call duties include evenings and holidays, requiring timely on-site responses and strict confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Provide face-to-face crisis intervention and support to survivors of sexual and domestic assault.
  • Maintain availability while on call and respond promptly to emergencies.
  • Be on site within 30 minutes of a call.
  • Maintain total confidentiality of conversations, files, and communications.
  • Provide referrals and follow up on cases as needed.
  • Complete initial 8 hours of training within two weeks of hire.
  • Attend quarterly meetings and cover two major holidays per calendar year.

Summary Description Of Work

Enhanced Advocates provide crisis intervention, safety planning, referrals, and information about the criminal justice system.

Compensation: $20 per weekday, $30 per weekends, and $17 per hour when responding while on call.

Work Schedule: on-call 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. evenings, and 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on holidays and weekends. Willing to cover at least one weekend per month and two calendar holidays per year.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System, Social Work, and Domestic Violence, preferred but not necessary.
  • Valid drivers license, acceptable drivers license.
  • Bilingual skills preferred.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Respond to hospitals or law enforcement agencies to provide face to face crisis intervention and support to survivors of sexual and domestic assault.
  • Maintain availability at all times while on call.
  • Must be able to be on site within 30 minutes of a call.
  • Demonstrate and maintain total confidentiality at all times, i.e. conversations, files, and cell phone calls.
  • Provide appropriate referrals and follow up on cases as needed.
  • Complete initial 8 hours of training within two weeks of hire.
  • Attend quarterly meetings
  • Cover two major holidays per calendar year:

  • Cooperates and collaborates with program staff, volunteers, visitors to the agency and, the community at large.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of crisis intervention skills while working with a diverse clientele.
  • Displays a courteous and caring attitude at all times to the clientele, volunteers, agency staff and community at large.
  • Is dependable and punctual regarding scheduling.
  • Abides by all specific program and agency policy and procedures.
  • Develops personal and program related skills through participation in internal and external training opportunities including printed material and media.
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal
  • Creates, maintains, and shares as appropriate a dynamic self-care plan.
  • Strives to make connections between the agency and the larger community whenever possible to contribute to the agency's ongoing fundraising and friend-raising efforts.
  • Essential functions of this job to be performed on company physical work site.
  • Performs other program duties as assigned.
