Big Language Solutions is seeking an English to Yiddish translator to support translation, editing, proofreading, and QA across General and Human Rights domains. The role focuses on accuracy, tone, and cultural nuance for a New York Hasidic Yiddish-speaking audience.

Proficiency in Yiddish and English, plus at least three years of translation experience, are required. You will work with MemoQ, Adobe products, and PDFs, ensuring confidentiality and high-quality outputs.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years of professional translation, editing or proofreading experience.
• Native or near-native proficiency in Yiddish with excellent command of English.
• Strong familiarity with the Yiddish variety used within Hasidic communities in New York.
• Experience translating content for a New York Hasidic Yiddish-speaking audience.
• Experience with General and Human Rights content is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Translate a variety of documents from English into Yiddish, ensuring accuracy of content, context, terminology, and tone.
• Review and edit existing Yiddish translations to confirm accuracy, fluency, and appropriateness for the intended target audience.
• Provide editing, proofreading, and quality assurance (QA) support in the English u2192 Yiddish language pair.
• Ensure that translations are appropriate for a New York-based target audience, taking into consideration relevant linguistic and cultural nuances.
• Work with documents in MemoQ, Adobe products, and PDF files, including reviewing and adding annotations to PDFs when required.
• Maintain confidentiality and safeguard sensitive client information.

Requirements

• Minimum of three (3) years of professional translation, editing, or proofreading experience.
• Native or near-native proficiency in Yiddish, with excellent command of English.
• Strong familiarity with the Yiddish variety used within Hasidic communities in New York is required. Experience with the linguistic conventions, terminology, and cultural context of the New York Hasidic Yiddish-speaking community is highly preferred.
• Experience translating, editing, or reviewing content intended for a New York Hasidic Yiddish-speaking target audience.
• Experience with General and Human Rights subject matter is preferred.
• Strong proofreading, editing, and quality assurance skills, with the ability to review existing Yiddish translations for accuracy, naturalness, and appropriateness for the intended audience.
