Qualifications

  • Qualified teacher status (QTS, QTLS or equivalent) required.
  • Experience teaching English in a secondary school.
  • Strong knowledge of English Language and English Literature.
  • Ability to inspire students with a wide range of texts and genres.
  • Excellent classroom management and organisational skills.
  • Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS via Update Service.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver English Language and English Literature lessons across KS3 and KS4, with KS5 where possible.
  • Plan creative lessons that challenge all abilities.
  • Foster a positive learning environment and develop reading, writing, speaking and critical thinking.
  • Assess and track progress with timely feedback to support attainment.
  • Differentiate to meet diverse learner needs, including SEND.
  • Support GCSE preparation and contribute to department initiatives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents and staff to optimise student outcomes.

Start Date: September
Contract: Full-Time
Salary: £31,650 – £51,048 per annum

An inclusive and successful secondary school in Weymouth is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic English Teacher to join its department from September. The role involves teaching English across Key Stages 3 and 4, supporting students to develop their confidence in reading, writing, analysis and spoken communication.

The school offers a supportive and collaborative environment, with strong leadership and a clear commitment to staff wellbeing and professional development. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced English Teacher or ECT looking to develop their career within a welcoming and ambitious school community.

The Role

As an English Teacher, you will:

  • - Deliver engaging and high-quality English Language and English Literature lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, with opportunities to teach Key Stage 5 where applicable.
  • - Plan and prepare creative lessons that challenge and motivate students of all abilities.
  • - Foster a positive learning environment that encourages students to develop confidence in reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking.
  • - Assess, monitor, and track student progress, providing timely and constructive feedback to support achievement.
  • - Differentiate lessons effectively to meet the needs of all learners, including those with additional educational needs.
  • - Promote high standards of behaviour, engagement, and academic achievement within the classroom.
  • - Support students in preparing for GCSE examinations and achieving their academic goals.
  • - Contribute to departmental initiatives, curriculum development, and extracurricular activities such as reading clubs, creative writing groups, or school productions.
  • - Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and support staff to ensure the best possible outcomes for students.
What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • - A recognised teaching qualification (QTS, QTLS, or equivalent).
  • - Experience teaching English within a secondary school setting.
  • - Strong subject knowledge in English Language and English Literature.
  • - A passion for literacy and the ability to inspire students to engage with a wide range of texts and genres.
  • - Excellent classroom management and organisational skills.
  • - Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • - The ability to build positive and productive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • - A flexible and adaptable approach to teaching, with a commitment to meeting individual student needs.
  • - An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service, or a willingness to apply for one.
