Job summary

Fairbanks North Star Borough School District is hiring for Teacher Aides/Assistants/Tutors in the ELL program. The role involves supporting classroom teachers with accommodations for English Language Learners and tutoring in core subjects in English or the students’ native language.

The position offers an 7-hour workday over a 9-month year, with new-hire hourly rates ranging from $20.77 to $23.21 DOE. Applicants should have a high school diploma, and for Title I sites, additional college credits

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• For Title I sites, 48 college credits, an associate degree, or ParaProfessional Assessment.
• Experience communicating with and relating well to persons from diverse language and cultural backgrounds.
• Basic and high school level skills in math, reading, English, social studies, and science.
• Knowledge of cross-cultural communication, second language acquisition, and academic language development.
• Ability to relate well with teachers, principal, and other staff; to follow through with tutoring plans and documentation requirements; and to relate well with students, parents, and community members from diverse language and cultural backgrounds.

Job Qualifications/Requirements (please review job description for qualifications and duties of the position):

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• If working in a Title I school, must possess a total of 48 hours of college credit, have attained an associate's degree, or must have passed the ParaProfessional Assessment.
• Experience communicating with and relating well to persons from diverse language and cultural backgrounds.
• Basic and high school level skills in math, reading, English, social studies, and science.
• Knowledge of cross-cultural communication, second language acquisition, and academic language development.
