Job summary

University of the Central Missouri invites applications for an adjunct ESL instructor to teach on the Warrensburg campus. Courses may include synchronous and online elements; up to 9 credit hours per semester.

Employment is contingent on background checks and university policies. Responsibilities include teaching assigned courses, preparing materials, communicating with students, reporting grades, and participating in cultural activities when possible.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree or current Masters student in TESL or related field.
  • Experience teaching ESL is preferred.
  • Commitment to teaching excellence.
  • Study Abroad or Living Abroad or Language Learning experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse cultures and languages preferred.
  • Availability to participate in/lead cultural programming/events preferred.

English Language Institute - Adjunct Instructor
Description

The English Language Institute is accepting applications from qualified candidates to teach ESL classes. The anticipated start date is August 2024, though future semesters are possibly available. The instructor will teach face-to face courses on the Warrensburg campus. These classes may also include a mix of synchronous and/or on-line instruction. This position may teach up to 9 credit hours per semester. UCM reserves the right to change the delivery method at any time during the academic year.

Examples of Duties

Position Duties include:

Teach the assigned course(s) throughout the semester. Prepare materials needed for course lectures, exams and other class projects. Be available to communicate with students by email, phone, web conferencing, or face-to face meetings. Report grades, as needed, throughout the semester. Participate in/lead cultural activities/cultural programming when possible.

Typical Qualifications

Education:

  • Masters degree or current Masters student in Teaching English as a 2nd Language or related field.
  • Masters Degree in another field with previous language teaching experience.

Experience:

  • A commitment to teaching excellence.
  • Excellent language skills.
  • Previous teaching experience is preferred.
  • Study Abroad or Living Abroad or Language Learning experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse cultures and languages preferred.
  • Availability to participate in/lead cultural programming/events preferred
