Job summary

The University of Utah’s Continuing Education and Community Engagement’s English Language Institute is hiring in-person adjunct ESL instructors to teach ESL classes on a rolling basis. No online classes.

Instructors will teach according to provided objectives, prepare syllabi, and participate in required faculty meetings and activities. The role requires strong communication across cultures and the ability to manage attendance and grades on a weekly basis.

Qualifications

  • Master’s in TESOL or related field with TESOL Certificate.
  • Teaching experience across varied skills and levels.

  • Prepare class syllabus according to syllabi templates and Faculty Handbook.
  • Attend a faculty meeting and one sponsored activity per session (4 hrs total).
  • Maintain attendance records, report attendance daily, record grades weekly, arrange substitutes as needed, communicate with ELI daily.

Job Summary

Responsibilities
  • Teach ESL classes according to the class objectives and materials
  • Read ELI Mission and curriculum, prepare class syllabus according to the provided syllabi templates, read and follow guidelines outlined in the ELI Faculty Handbook
  • Attend one faculty meeting and 1 sponsored activities (4 hrs. total) per session
  • Keep attendance, report attendance daily, record grades weekly, be able to arrange for substitutes in the event of an absence, maintain communication with ELI and check email daily
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s in TESOL or in a related field with a TESOL Certificate
  • Teaching experience, preferably in a variety of skills and levels
