Job summary

Generac is looking for an Engineering Technician II to conduct electrical, mechanical, and environmental tests on products. The ideal candidate will prepare for tests, conduct them, and document results under supervision, ensuring that all testing requirements are fulfilled.

This role requires at least a High School Diploma and 2 years of relevant experience. Additional skills in Microsoft Excel, project participation, and basic electrical knowledge are preferred. Competitive benefits include health plans, 401k matching, and PTO.

Job description

The Engineering Technician II is responsible for performing electrical, mechanical, and environmental tests of current and new product designs under close supervision. Conducts continuous improvement activities to reduce the potential for product defects. Involved with problem identification, containment activities, action plan development and execution. Ensure that the test requirements for product testing and processes are defined and met.

Responsibilities
  • Setup test equipment and products in proper sequence per testing procedures;
  • Perform tests on prototypes, existing, and competitor products for stated criteria involving mechanical, electrical, environmental, and electromechanical functions through ISO 17025 and Laboratory Scope of Operations
  • Use various mechanical, electrical, and electronic measurement devices
  • Accurately interpret and document scientific notation, temperature, pressure, and other measurements
  • Assists in the assembly and fabrication of test equipment and prototype products per blueprint specifications
  • Follow guidelines for bill of materials
  • Support manufacturing through troubleshooting activities; Maintain test‑related documentation in, and support administration of, database environment
  • Prepare formal and informal test reports
  • Assist with the Generac Engineering Laboratory Audit and organization 5S programs
Requirements
  • High School Diploma
  • 2 Years of relevant work experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing projects or participating in project teams;
  • Experience using specialized equipment such as engine dynamometers;
  • Experience welding, shaping sheet metal, mill or turning (dependent on lab location).

  • Basic skills in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Able to work non‑standard or extended work hours when necessary.

  • Complete projects within guidelines.
  • Work effectively in a fast‑paced, team environment.

  • Demonstrate testing competence as required per ISO 17025 and the Laboratory Scope of Operations.
  • Provide own basic set of tools.
