Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking an Engineering Technologist to support the PIE Install Engineering Group in Los Alamos, NM. The role ensures construction and maintenance work adheres to approved documents, coordinating between design and construction teams to verify baselines and as-built configurations.
The position offers pathways at Engineering Technologist 3 or 4 levels, with advanced responsibilities at ET4 including senior technical leadership, mentoring, and method improvements

This position will be filled at either the Engineering Technologist 3 or Engineering Technologist 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the Engineering Technologist 4 level.
The Plutonium Infrastructure Engineering Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of engineering capabilities to provide innovative engineering solutions in support of the Laboratory's Plutonium Facility. This position supports the PIE Install Engineering Group. This group is responsible for implementing the Conduct of Engineering (COE) program on Division projects. The program includes processes, standards, training, and qualifications that are generally applicable throughout the life cycle of a facility. They exist to effectively manage risks and satisfy customer requirements in a safe, secure, cost effective, and environmentally responsible manner.
The Engineering Technologist is responsible for ensuring that the technical aspects of construction and maintenance projects are executed in full conformance with the Approved Project Documents by monitoring facility maintenance and construction activities. This is accomplished by providing input during scoping, design, execution, and project closeout to ensure baseline documents are accurate, design documents are adhered to, and as-built configurations are verified. Field Engineers expedite project execution by identifying issues, coordinating technical solutions, and providing timely guidance to the constructor through approved procedures.
At the Engineering Technologist 3 level, you will independently perform advanced field engineering assignments, evaluate field conditions, resolve technical and constructability issues, verify compliance with approved project documents, and coordinate solutions between design engineering and construction.
In addition to the responsibilities described above, Engineering Technologist 4 serves as a senior technical resource with substantial independence and latitude. Engineer Technologist 4 leads complex and multidisciplinary field and engineering activities, resolves unique or unusually complex technical issues, determines appropriate technical approaches, provides technical direction and review of others' work, mentors less-experienced personnel, and develops or improves methods and approaches used to successfully execute construction projects.
In addition to the requirements above, qualification at the Engineering Technologist 4 level requires:
Position requires a Bachelor' Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology Science, Math or related degree from an accredited institution and 8 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
This position may be subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities. This DOE Order establishes entry-level requirements to ensure employees in the positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
Position requires a Bachelor' Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology Science, Math or related degree from an accredited institution and 12 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
This position may be subject to DOE Order 426.2 A, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities. This DOE Order establishes entry-level requirements to ensure employees in the positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
This position may require 24/7 coverage, which could involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.
Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Regular-status Laboratory employees applying for term-status positions may retain regular status with approval of the cognizant Principle Associate Director.
Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
