Aurora is seeking a Welder/Fabricator to support first article products for the hardware engineering team. You will contribute as a certified welder and fabricator in the fabrication shop, working on R&D prototypes and quality control.

We’re searching for a Welder/Fabricator supporting first article products for the hardware engineering team.

In this role you will
  • Serve as an R&D Technician supporting the development of Aurora's autonomous technology, functioning primarily as a Certified Welder and fabricator in the fabrication shop.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Hardware Engineering and cross-departmental teams.

  • Maintain high standards of documentation and adhere rigorously to safety protocols while meeting project timelines.

  • Operate effectively with minimal supervision, upholding core values of respect and integrity.

  • Partner with the R&D Manager to continuously evaluate, streamline, and optimize shop operations and efficiencies.

  • Assist across other R&D shop units as needed to drive collective team goals.

  • Actively pursue professional growth and continuous learning opportunities.

Required Qualifications
  • Technical & Fabrication Expertise:

    • 5+ years of direct welding experience within an R&D or rapid prototyping environment.

    • Demonstrated proficiency in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding processes.

    • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to interpret technical layouts, schematics, engineering drawings, and weld symbols.

    • Proven ability to program and run fabrication equipment, including WaterJets, Laser Cutters, Press Brakes,Plasma, and Powder Coating systems.

    • Hands-on skill with instrumentation, quality inspection tools, multimeters, and precision measurement equipment.

    • Perform quality control inspections on completed welds to verify structural integrity and adherence to specifications.

    • Maintain, repair, and upgrade shop machinery as required.

  • CAD & Design Skills:

    • Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks or Catia preferred).

    • Capability to design custom fixtures and components to assist in fabrication.

    • Thoroughly document and archive tooling designs, custom fixtures, and shop processes for future reference.

  • Software & System Tools:

    • Proficiency using Windows and/or macOS environments alongside Google Workspace (especially Google Sheets& Docs).

    • Working knowledge of enterprise software tools such as Jira, Confluence, ERP, and PLM platforms.

  • Professional Competencies & Attributes:

    • Exceptional attention to detail, craftsmanship, and personal accountability.

    • Strong problem-solving capability with a structured, analytical approach to troubleshooting.

    • Excellent interpersonal communication, self-awareness, and team collaboration skills.

    • Proactive, adaptable, and willing to assist teammates in dynamic, fast-paced environments.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Recognized industry certifications (e.g., American Welding Society - AWS).

The hourly rate for this position is $35-$46 per hour. Aurora's pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate's starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
