Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan is seeking personnel for the Morenci operation to assist with drilling-sample collection and handling. The role supports drill pattern sampling, labeling, and timely transport of samples to the assay laboratory, with emphasis on safety and accuracy in field operations.

Entry-level position requiring a High School diploma or GED, with preferred experience. On-site responsibilities include lab sample delivery, safety adherence, and basic computer task support in Microsoft Office.

• Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
• Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

• Able to use a variety of computer software applications, especially Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Assist in identifying which drill holes require sampling from the Drill Pattern and coordinate with dispatch/drilling and blasting.
• Assist in obtaining representative samples following SOPs, ensuring correct labeling and spacing.
• Assist with quality control and duplicate sampling, labeling original and duplicate samples appropriately for lab staff.
• Transport and deliver all samples to the assay laboratory promptly.
• Transport and deliver samples to shipping locations for the assay laboratory promptly.
• Mark material zones (ore/waste/leach) with flags in the field as required.
• Verify equipment functionality and ensure sampling equipment is cleaned after use.
• Perform other duties as required.

Where You Will Work

Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations (an open-pit copper mining complex) has been in continuous operation since 1939. The operation consists of two concentrators, crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system; four SX plants; and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode.

What You Will Do

• Assist in identifying which drill holes require sampling from the Drill Pattern. Must work closely and coordinate work schedule with dispatch and/or drilling and blasting.
• Assist in obtaining representative samples following the appropriate SOP's. Ensures that samples are obtained from equally spaced locations within the drill hole, that the minimum sample weight is obtained, that samples are correctly labeled, etc.
• Assists with quality control; for those sample locations that are identified as locations for duplicate samples, repeats the sampling process on the same blast hole. Ensures that the duplicate samples are correctly labeled and that both the original and the duplicate are identified accordingly for laboratory staff.
• Transport and deliver all samples to the assay laboratory, in a timely manner.
• Transport and deliver all samples to the correct location for shipping to the assay laboratory, in a timely manner.
• Mark material zones (ore/waste/leach) with flags in the field as required.
• Responsible for verifying that equipment is functional and operating properly. Ensures that all sampling equipment is cleaned after each sample has been taken.
• Perform other duties as required.

What We Offer You

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $18.50 - $24.50/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
