Job summary

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc. in Liberty, NC seeks an Engineering Technician (Seibi) to set up and improve production equipment for the Battery department.

You will work with automation, PLCs, and safety systems to enable smooth ramp-up, troubleshoot issues, and support capital projects from planning to SOP. Ideal candidates have industrial controls experience, PLC proficiency, and a technical degree.

Qualifications

  • Industrial Controls Engineering/Engineering Tech experience in manufacturing, including equipment installation/modification.
  • Experience with electrical and/or mechanical systems in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with PLCs and troubleshooting relay logic.

Responsibilities

  • Test and repair electrical equipment or systems (circuits, relay logic, wiring, motors, servo drives).
  • Write/modify PLC/robot/safety system programs.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulics and pneumatics components.
  • Plan and execute machine integration into mass production.
  • Document work using written/electronic methods.
  • Improve safety, quality, and productivity through problem solving.
  • Develop detailed schedules for assigned work area or project.
  • Learn new processes quickly and support machine trials.
  • Certify safety of equipment via Safety Integrity Check.

Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Production Engineering Battery Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Engineering Technician (Seibi Technician). The primary responsibility of this position is to execute as the North American initial machine set-up personnel (SV), increase Operation Availability (OA) through continuous improvement and problem‑solving technical issues. This role will also support the Battery department's objective to execute Capital Projects from planning thru Start of Production (SOP) by modifying machine function and design. This position will be located at Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina (TBMNC) in Liberty, NC and report to the Seibi Manager for Battery. Successful candidate must exhibit Toyota Way leadership values; (Respect for People and Continuous Improvement Activity). Desired characteristics include perseverance, curiosity for enrichment learning, self‑motivation, good communication skills and humility. Must be able to navigate complex problem solving. Successful candidate must be effective at identifying and removing barriers that hinder progress of project. Candidate must decide appropriate work priorities, developing and executing schedule for said priorities and reporting their status to management group.

What you’ll be doing
  • Test and repair electrical equipment or systems. (Involving circuits, relay logic, wiring, motors, servo drives, etc.)
  • Writing programs and modify existing programs for programmable logic controllers (PLC), robots, cameras, safety systems, and other electronic equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and repair machine components of hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Plan and execute machine integration into mass production. (Leveling, adjustment and quality conformation for assigned work area)
  • Perform basic administrative skills including documentation of work performed by written/electronic methods.
  • Problem solving and continuously improvement of safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Develop detailed schedule for assigned work area / project.
  • Demonstrate the ability to learn new processes by different means.
  • Supporting Machine trials at vendors and internal to Toyota locations.
  • Certify Safety of Equipment per the standards via “Safety Integrity Check”
What you bring
  • Industrial Controls Engineering/Engineering Tech experience in a manufacturing environment, including equipment installation, modification, and optimization
  • Experience with electrical and/or mechanical systems in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency with PLC
  • Technical experience with relay logic including wiring and troubleshooting
  • Availability to work overtime, holidays, weekends, and shutdowns, including business travel, both domestic and international, up to 30%.
  • The candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a “reasonable accommodation”, including the ability to:
    • Stand, stoop, and walk throughout a large industrial manufacturing plant for many hours of the day
    • Ascend & descend stairs throughout a large industrial manufacturing plant.
    • Bend, kneel and crawl to gain access to equipment for repair
    • Lift, push and pull 25 pounds in a one‑time event
  • Added bonus if you have:
    • Technical associate degree or higher
    • Experience with Hydraulic or Pneumatic troubleshooting and schematic reading
    • Working experience with Servo Motion Controllers (M-Code or SFC)
    • Experience in Pre‑Production set up
    • Experience gathering and analyzing quality data from multiple sources to determine root cause.
    • Experience with high volume production in a clean room environment
