Job summary

Toyota North America is seeking an Engineer to join the Battery Production Planning team at PEMC in Georgetown, KY. You will manage CapEx and OpEx budgets, coordinate technical training, and lead project reflections for advanced planning of EV battery manufacturing.

You will collaborate with TMNA teams, vendors, and external partners, conducting root cause analyses and ensuring proper documentation and standardization across programs. Strong communication to executive levels is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 5+ years of equivalent manufacturing experience.
  • Experience managing budget for Capital and/or Operating projects >$250K.
  • Experience creating technical documentation, summary reports, and presentation materials.
  • Experience presenting to executive management for knowledge transfer.
  • Experience collaborating with multiple teams, contractors, vendors, and external parties.
  • TBP or similar methodology experience.
  • Willing to work weekends/holidays up to 25% overtime.
  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally up to 25%.

Responsibilities

  • Summarize project cost discrepancies to support monthly CapEx and OpEx budget reports.
  • Audit G/L accounts and code utilization; request journal entries as needed.
  • Communicate monthly spending on key G/L accounts for planning.
  • Serve as department SME for plan, ringi, and requisition package creation; maintain shikumi docs.
  • Schedule and conduct training on Ariba, SAP, Ringi Spend Management, etc.
  • Coordinate department technical training with RO/SEIBI/Quality/Maintenance teams.
  • Lead cross-functional project reflection meetings and track items for visibility.
  • Assist with root cause analysis and countermeasure development for reflection items.
  • Partner with plant teams to yokoten activities on components and processes.
  • Incorporate reflection items into cost planning and machine specs with Battery Cell Planning.
  • Attend industry events and benchmarking opportunities.

Who We’re Looking For

Toyota’s Battery Production Engineering department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Engineer to join the planning team. This Engineer's main responsibilities are Capital Expenditures (CapEx) and Operating Expenditures (OpEx) budget management, coordinating department technical training, and project reflection lead for advanced planning of electric vehicle battery manufacturing.

This position will be located at Toyota’s Production Engineering Manufacturing Center (PEMC) in Georgetown, Kentucky, and report to an Engineering Manager within the Battery Cell Planning group of the Battery Manufacturing Engineering (BME) department.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Summarize project cost discrepancies by investigating description of and justification for expenses to support monthly CapEx and OpEx budget executive management summary reports
  • Perform routine audits of General Ledger (G/L) accounts and commodity code utilization to ensure organization is conforming to standard set for fiscal year budget. Submit requests for journal entry correction to TMNA A&F to remedy any deviations
  • Communicate monthly spending on key G/L accounts to organization for activity planning and securement of necessary funds
  • Function as department SME for basic plan, ringi, and requisition package creation. Maintain existing and create new shikumi documentation to visualize standard, best practice processes
  • Schedule and conduct individual training sessions for new team members as well as annual refresher training sessions for existing team members on Ariba, SAP, Ringi Database / Ringi Spend Management, and other programs and applications
  • Operate as department technical training coordinator including lunch and learn sessions. Collaborate with various technical resource groups such as RJ, SEIBI, Quality, and Maintenance to determine overall need, select best fit courses and programs, and schedule opportunities to facilitate member continued skill development
  • Lead reoccurring, cross-functional department project reflection meetings with all relevant groups during all project phases. Collect and track reflection items in standard document and distribute to organization at set frequency for visibility
  • Assist with root cause analysis, countermeasure development, implementation trials, and results monitoring as applicable for project reflection items
  • Partner with manufacturing plant-based teams including onsite TMNA PE groups to yokoten activities to applicable components, equipment, processes, and materials
  • Coordinate incorporation of project reflection items into cost planning, budget creation, and machine specification project phases in conjunction with Battery Cell Planning team members
  • Participate in benchmarking opportunities of other departments / shops / plants within Toyota as well as outside contractors, vendors, manufacturers, and researchers from automotive or other industries. Attend trade shows, conference series, and other relevant events as applicable
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering (or similar discipline) or 5+ years of equivalent manufacturing (or similar) industry experience
  • Experience managing budget for capital and / or operating projects greater than $250K total amount
  • Experience creating technical documentation, summary reports, and presentation materials
  • Experience presenting technical and non-technical subjects to various types of audiences, up to and including executive management level, for overall knowledge gain
  • Experience demonstrating technical and non-technical skill set(s) to various types of audiences, up to and including executive management level, for continued training and development
  • Experience collaborating with multiple teams and groups, both within and outside department as well as contractors, vendors, and other external parties, to accomplish project and activity objectives
  • Toyota Business Practice (TBP) experience or similar methodology including critical thinking skills including root cause analysis, countermeasure development, implementation trials, results monitoring, and standardization
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and shutdown periods, up to 25% overtime
  • Ability to flex work schedule to accommodate early morning and / or late evening meetings with Japan members as necessary
  • Ability to business travel, both domestically and internationally, up to 25% total
Added bonus if you have
  • Advanced Degree (above Bachelor’s) and / or certification within a technical field
  • Experience with raw materials, manufacturing equipment, and / or processes for battery manufacturing
  • Experience with software programs such as AutoCAD, Inventor, and Revit for 2D drafting and 3D modeling
