Job summary

Leidos LLC is seeking an Engineering Technician to support engineers in research, design, testing, and manufacturing process improvements. The role covers electrical and mechanical fabrication, assembly, troubleshooting, and testing for both new hardware and sustaining engineering projects.

The position may require up to 10% travel to NASA centers or testing locations. A high school diploma with 3 years of related experience and the ability to read engineering drawings are essential.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and implement requirements from engineering drawings and work orders.
  • Familiarity with the engineering drawings process.
  • Familiarity with tool calibration.
  • US Citizenship or US Permanent Resident status required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical engineering support and perform steps via work authorizing documents.
  • Work with laptops, printers, AV equipment, electrical, electronic, or mechanical components or equipment.
  • Fabricate cables and electronic components utilizing NASA workmanship standards (soldering, harness and cable, staking/conformal coating).
  • Support multiple projects, prioritize, and accomplish tasks in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Lead some operations within an area that has significant impact on results for the organization.
  • Assist and train lower-level support employees.
  • General Lab cleanup and maintenance.

Job description

Leidos has an excellent opportunity for an Engineering Technician to work on the Cargo Mission Contract (CMC). In this position, they will provide semi-professional technical support for engineers working in such areas as research, design, development, testing, or manufacturing process improvement. Work pertains to electrical and mechanical fabrication, assembly, troubleshooting, and testing. This position will support both new hardware development projects and the sustaining engineering. Some projects may require travel to other NASA centers or locations where testing is being performed; expect up to 10% travel.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide technical engineering support and perform steps via work authorizing documents
  • Perform work pertaining to laptops, printers, audio visual equipment, electrical, electronic, or mechanical components or equipment
  • Perform cable and electronic component fabrication utilizing NASA recognized workmanship standards (soldering, harness and cable, staking/conformal coating, etc.)
  • Support multiple projects, prioritize, and accomplish tasks in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
  • Responsible for leading some operations within an area that has significant impact on results for the organization
  • Responsible for assisting and training lower-level support employees
  • General Lab cleanup and maintenance
  • Employees are expected to routinely lift up to 35lbs without the assistance of mechanical aides
Basic Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent, and 3 year’s related experience
  • Strong understanding of how to read and implement requirements from engineering drawings and work orders
  • Familiarity with the engineering drawings process
  • Familiarity with tool calibration
Preferred Qualifications
  • Perform cable and electronic component fabrication utilizing NASA recognized workmanship standards (NASA 8739.1, NASA 8739.4, IPC-J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-A-620) PWB population using various soldering techniques (through hole and surface mount)
  • Electronics troubleshooting
  • Working understanding of Maximo Inventory Management System or similar task order system
  • Must be able to pass a Public Trust background investigation.
  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident status is required.
  • This position is covered under the Service Contract Act and is subject to minimum wage requirements as well as minimum Health and Welfare benefits.
  • The rate for this position will be at least $24/hr, but may be higher based on actual experience.
