Job summary

KLJ is seeking an Engineering Technician IV to support transportation, aviation, municipal, utility, environmental, construction, and infrastructure projects from concept through construction. Qualifications

  • Knowledge of applicable regulations, permitting requirements, and industry standards.
  • Ability to perform technical computations, measurements, and data analysis.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to apply practical solutions in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, compile, analyze, and interpret field and project data from surveys, GIS resources, plans, specifications, maps, utility records, geotechnical information, and other engineering resources.
  • Support engineering and construction teams through field observations, data collection, inspections, and documentation activities.
  • Evaluate existing and proposed site conditions to verify compliance with applicable regulations, permits, plans, and project specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and technical staff on project planning, design support, construction administration, and quality assurance activities.
  • Assist with construction layout, reference point establishment, elevations, grades, and installation verification.
  • Review calculations, quantities, design information, and construction documentation to ensure project accuracy and consistency.
  • Identify site issues, discrepancies, safety concerns, or compliance risks and communicate findings to project leadership.
  • Prepare technical reports, field documentation, project records, and moderately complex technical deliverables.
  • Support risk assessment efforts by providing recommendations related to design, constructability, safety, and project performance.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation using engineering software, electronic systems, drawings, calculations, and field logs.
  • Assist with permitting, work planning, health and safety documentation, and project coordination activities.
  • Follow established safety protocols and promote a culture of safety on every job site.
  • Participate in ongoing technical development and training opportunities.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, professionalism, and ethical decision-making while supporting KLJ projects and clients.

Job description

As an Engineering Technician IV, you'll play a critical role in supporting transportation, aviation, municipal, utility, environmental, construction, and infrastructure projects from concept through construction.

What You'll Do

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering technician experience.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This role includes a combination of office and field responsibilities. Candidates should be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions.

Requirements include:

  • Walking on uneven terrain for extended periods, up to three miles per day.
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 75 pounds.
  • Standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and climbing as project conditions require.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in field and office environments.
  • Visual abilities including close vision, depth perception, color vision, and focus adjustment.

Hours & Travel
  • Typically 40+ hours per week.
  • Approximately 50% office and 50% field work.
  • Field work may increase during active construction seasons.
  • Occasional travel may be required based on project needs.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $75,000 - $100,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other business considerations.
