The Public Works department is looking for qualified applicants to fill the position of Engineering Technician I or II in Olathe, KS. Applications for this job will be accepted until filled. The job duties of the Engineering Technician I/II include the following:
Field observation and document construction activities as directed by the Engineer or Project Manager in accordance with the contract requirements and documentation of same per Johnson County spec; comply with all applicable safety and environmental requirements; communicate effectively with Public Works staff on progress of work and pertinent issues by compiling written, oral, and/or diagram presentation.
Manages and executes projects and programs in coordination with Project Managers and Engineers; applies engineering design standards and procedures in completion of project and program tasks; analyzes, researches, and interprets data during review of study and design projects and programs; develops and presents recommendations for engineering studies/designs, plan review, field investigations, and construction management; documents and creates data in documents, files, and systems; utilizes engineering design and review software.
Provides customer service through responding to inquiries from developers, contractors, consultants and the general public; provides information and explanation to assiststakeholders in understanding standards, CIP projectgoals, and development activities; works through design and construction conflicts with consultants, developers, inspectors and contractors.
Works as a lead in coordinating the work of Engineering Technicians and/or guides and supports team members to maximize productivity, facilitate achievement of group and department goals; may function as a subject matter expert in engineering program areas.
Minimum Job Requirements:
To be eligible for consideration as aEngineering Technician Iposition, the candidateis required to have an Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or equivalent and one (1) year of job related experience working for an engineering and/or construction organization.A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving recordis alsorequired. A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or equivalent is preferred.
