Purpose
Stormwater:
Engineering Technicians I and II implement stormwaterprograms, conduct testing, monitor activity, and oversee the sanitary sewersystems to ensure compliance with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources(WDNR) Stormwater Discharge Permit requirements.
Sewer Design and Flood Mitigation:
Engineering Technicians I and II assist civil engineers bycollecting field data on sewer infrastructure and by supporting relatedconstruction projects.
Essential Functions
SURVEYING AND DRAFTING
- Install, maintain, and prepare flow recorders and levelmeasuring equipment in sanitary and storm utility holes and periodicallydownload data from these devices.
- Update and prepare charts, maps, graphs, drawings, anddatabases using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) and GeographicInformation Systems (GIS) software. Support engineers and drafting technicianswith file management and document scanning.
- Communicate relevant information to property owners.
- Prepare and update reimbursement requests for constructionprojects funded by external agency grants.
STORMWATER
- Monitor storm sewers, outfalls, and roadside ditches for dryweather flow, estimate flow rates, collect samples, and perform required tests.
- Install, maintain, and prepare flow recorders and othermonitoring equipment in sanitary and storm utility holes, and periodicallydownload data.
- Perform checks on the City’s Surcharge Level Indicators andrecord electric meter readings from the City’s bypass pumping stationsfollowing significant rain events.
- Assist with the downspout disconnection program, stormwatermanagement plan recertifications, and other initiatives within theEnvironmental Engineering Section.
SEWER DESIGN AND FLOOD MITIGATION
- Conduct condition assessments of sewer mains by analyzingand scoring Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) inspection videos.
- Review building permits and Certified Survey Maps (CSM) forproposed developments within the City.
- Perform field data collection on sewer infrastructure beforepaving projects, including assessing sewer structure conditions and accuratelyidentifying locations using Global Positioning System (GPS) tools.
- Collect data for Geographic Information System (GIS)records.
- Assist in documenting field conditions, material testing,and other activities during sewer construction projects.

The current salary range (PR 3PN) is$59,541- $77,225annually,and the current resident incentive salary range for City of Milwaukee residentsis$61,328-$79,541.
The current salary range (PR 3QN) is$64,118-$83,403annually,and the current resident incentive salary range for City of Milwaukee residentsis$66,042-$85,905.
Appointment above the minimum is possible based upon experiencelevel and other qualifications and is subject to approval.
