Job summary

The NC Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Technician I (S) in the Youngsville area to support engineers and perform a range of field and office tasks. The role includes surveying, sampling, testing, erosion control and traffic control duties on roadway projects.

Applicants should have an Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology or Survey Technology, or an equivalent education/experience.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or related.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may qualify.
• Knowledge of computer equipment, iPad and software.
• Understanding of construction, inspection, and surveying concepts.
• Knowledge of standards, specifications, and plan reading.
• Experience working in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Support higher level technicians or engineers in construction inspection on roadway projects.
• Perform surveying, materials sampling, testing, erosion control and traffic control tasks.
• Compile, analyze, compute, edit and process field data for daily reports.
• Perform a broad range of calculations and computations.
• Work office and field duties; projects may last months or longer; potential hazards and weather exposure.
