Air Squared Manufacturing, a leading OEM of scroll-type compressors, vacuum pumps, and expanders, seeks an Engineering Technician I in Thornton, CO. The role focuses on assembling, testing, and diagnosing scroll prototypes, supporting engineers, and aiding transitions from prototype to production.

The candidate should have 6 months in mechanical testing, strong hands-on skills, and solid problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Associate’s degree in mechanical engineering technology is preferred.
  • Minimum 6 months of experience in a mechanical testing environment or similar.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical principles and familiarity with hand tools.
  • Experience with electrical wiring and troubleshooting is preferred.
  • Automotive mechanic experience considered.
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, test, and diagnose scroll compressors, vacuum pumps, and expanders using provided drawings.
  • Assist design engineers with developing and documenting assembly procedures.
  • Provide guidance to production assemblers on procedures.
  • Assist engineers in designing, building, and maintaining test stands.
  • Assemble and install mechanical components, fixtures, and instrumentation on test stands.
  • Perform electrical wiring and ensure proper connections for test equipment and data acquisition systems.
  • Conduct pressure checks on equipment and perform standby maintenance on test stands.
  • Support transition of prototypes into production.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems on test stands.
  • Calibrate test equipment per established procedures.
  • Participate in safety meetings and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Work individually or as part of a team; perform quality checks.

Air Squared Manufacturing, Inc. is an OEM manufacturer of scroll type compressors, vacuum pumps and expanders for the medical, aerospace, fuel cell and power generation industries. Air Squared offers exciting career opportunities working on projects including NASA MOXIE, Leading Electric and Autonomous Vehicle OEM, DOE Clean Energy initiatives ranging from nuclear fusion and the Advanced Research Projects Agency - Energy (ARPA-e), and other cutting‑edge projects.

The Engineering Technician I is responsible for assembly, testing, and diagnosing scroll prototypes, including the test stands on which the units will be tested. They will assist engineers in transitioning products from the prototype phase to production through assembly support, test stand assembly and maintenance, and providing general assembly feedback.

Pay Range: $25 - $30 / hour, based on qualifications and experience

Job Responsibilities:
  • Assemble, test, and diagnose scroll compressors, vacuum pumps, and expanders with direct oral or written instructions, using engineering drawings as provided by the project engineer
  • Assist Design Engineers with tasks such as developing and documenting assembly procedures
  • Provide guidance to production assemblers on assembly and test procedures
  • Assist engineers in designing, building, and maintaining test stands based on project specifications
  • Assemble and install mechanical components, fixtures, and instrumentation on test stands
  • Perform electrical wiring and ensure proper connections for test equipment and data acquisition systems
  • Conduct pressure checks on equipment, compressors, and pumps as directed
  • Perform maintenance of test stands and assembly cells
  • Provide support during the transition of prototype compressors into production
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical problems with test stands
  • Calibrate test equipment according to established procedures
  • Participate in safety meetings and adhere to all safety protocols
  • Work individually or as part of an assembly team
  • Perform quality checks of assemblies before shipment
  • Ensure work area is organized, clean, and safe
  • Regularly lift up to 50 lbs. of raw materials or machine parts, with or without accommodation
  • Perform other required tasks as assigned
