Job summary

Silgan Plastics Corporation is seeking a qualified maintenance engineer to improve operational efficiency of BDS blow molding machinery. The role involves rebuilding machines, direct capital projects, and hands-on installation or repair of components.

You will read schematics and drawings, troubleshoot after installation, and support the engineering team in system layouts. Training maintenance staff and mentoring teammates are also part of the responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Associate degree required.
• Mechanical and electrical skills required.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Experience with AutoCAD and MS Office preferred.
• PLC knowledge beneficial.
• Strong problem-solving abilities.
• Self-starter who can work unsupervised.
• Familiarity with plastics and plastic processing helpful.
• Willingness to learn plastics blow molding processing.

Responsibilities

• Manage and direct capital projects and machine rebuild.

SUMMARY

Candidate will work with the production facilities to improve the operational efficiency of BDS blow molding machinery by assisting in rebuilding and upgrading existing machines and streamlining the technology where applicable.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage and direct capital projects and machine rebuild.
• Assist with hands‑on installation, replacement, or repair of electrical and mechanical machine components.
• Assist with identifying and overcoming machine issues using problem‑solving skills.
• Read and develop engineering drawings and electrical schematics to diagnose problems and develop solutions for equipment issues.
• Troubleshoot equipment and systems after installation.
• Support engineering team with designing layouts of systems and equipment.
• Install new systems or equipment.
• Train maintenance employees on the maintenance of installed systems and equipment.
• Use blueprints and schematics to correctly install a system or piece of equipment.
• Help engineers develop new methods or products.
• Communicate with customers and vendors about new systems, equipment, and operation.
• Suggest improvements in work processes to increase efficiencies.
• Mentor maintenance and technical team members.
• Communicate progress of assigned projects to the plant team with supporting documents.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Good mechanical and electrical skills.
• Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and mechanical engineering drawings.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Office.
• Good communication skills (written and verbal).
• PLC knowledge.
• Problem‑solving skills.
• Self‑starter – can work unsupervised.
• Familiarity with plastics and plastic processing (plus).
• Ability to learn plastics blow molding processing (must).

EDUCATION

• Associate degree (required).
