Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is seeking a District Traffic Operations support technician in Bossier City, LA. The role assists professional engineers and higher-level technicians with data collection and analysis in District 04, Unit 002.

You will conduct traffic studies, develop designs using CADD, maintain inventories, and coordinate with State Police, local governments, and other DOTD sections. Appointment is Probational/Promotional.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Conduct traffic data collection and analysis; compile data and recommend corrective actions.
• Develop and maintain traffic-related designs using CADD, including traffic control plans and inventories.
• Enter and analyze traffic data in databases; prepare reports, estimates, measurements, and sign inventories.
• Coordinate with internal and external agencies to exchange traffic information and support operations.
• Participate in training and provide technical assistance, including on-the-job training for technicians; perform other duties including emergency support.

Job description

The overall function of this position is to assist professional engineers and higher-level technicians with traffic data collection and analysis within the District Traffic Operations Office. This position is located in District 04, Unit 002, in Bossier City, LA. The incumbent must be self-motivated, able to work independently or with minimal supervision, and capable of exercising sound judgment in the field.

Job Duties

• Conducts traffic data collection and analysis, including turning movement counts, 24-hour volume counts, speed studies, intersection and crash diagrams, and other traffic studies; compiles data and makes recommendations for corrective actions.
• Develops and maintains traffic-related designs and information using CADD, including traffic control plans and traffic signal inventories, while applying DOTD engineering policies, procedures, standards, and specifications.
• Enters and analyzes traffic data in appropriate databases and applications; prepares reports, estimates quantities, takes measurements, performs calculations, and maintains sign inventories as needed.
• Coordinates with internal and external agencies and sections to exchange traffic-related information and support traffic operations, including State Police, local governments, District Operations, Construction, Headquarters Traffic Services, Legal, Engineers, and Project Engineers.
• Participates in required training and provides technical assistance, including on-the-job training for lower-level technicians, and performs other duties as assigned, including emergency/disaster support.
