Job summary

Hydro is seeking an experienced electrical/controls technician to collaborate with engineers on prototype builds and processes. You will use PLC ladder logic (Allen-Bradley) to diagnose faults, connect to PLCs to verify I/O, and troubleshoot before mechanical intervention.

You will construct electrical panels in-house following NFPA and Hydro standards, acting as a maintenance escalation point for complex repairs while ensuring compliance with codes and safety policies.

Qualifications

• Strong ability to read and interpret ladder logic (Allen-Bradley) to identify fault conditions.
• Bridge electrical components with PLC logic and digital representations.
• Experience with 480VAC 3-phase and 24VDC control circuits.
• Proficient with trade equipment and precision measuring instruments.
• Adheres to HSE, quality and productivity requirements.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers and scientists to build, modify, and test prototypes and manufacturing processes.
• Utilize PLC ladder logic as a diagnostic tool to monitor program flow and identify root causes of faults.
• Connect to PLC processors to observe I/O, verify signal paths, and troubleshoot before maintenance.
• Lead construction of electrical panels for in-house projects in line with NFPA and Hydro standards.
• Act as escalation point for maintenance on complex mechanical and electrical repairs.
• Work from verbal instructions, prints, schematics while meeting national and local codes.
• Identify process improvements to maximize facility efficiency and 5S standards.
• Perform other duties to maintain workflow and respond to emergencies.
• Adhere to all company policies and maintain a clean, orderly work area.

What you will be doing

• Collaborate with engineers and scientists to build, modify, and test prototypes and new manufacturing processes.

• Connect to PLC processors to observe I/O status and verify signal paths, ensuring a clear path for troubleshooting before mechanical intervention.
• Lead the construction of electrical panels for in-house projects in accordance with NFPA and Hydro standards.
• Act as a technical escalation point for the maintenance team to assist with complex mechanical and electrical repairs.
• Work fluently from verbal instructions, prints, sketches, and schematics while ensuring all work meets national and local codes.
• Identify and recommend process enhancements to maximize facility efficiencies and 5S standards.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to maintain work flow or respond to emergency conditions.

• Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition in accordance with 5 S standards.
• Requires the ability to perform all duties within limitation of the standard methods and procedures, and in accordance with strict adherence to HSE, quality and productivity requirements

What will make you successful?

• High proficiency inreading and interpreting existing ladder logic(specifically Allen-Bradley) to identify fault conditions and verify inputs/outputs.
• Strong ability to bridge the gap between physical electrical components and their digital representation in a PLC program.
• Competent working with 480VAC (3-phase) and 24VDC low-voltage control circuits.
• Skilled in using trade equipment such as drill presses, band saws, and knockouts; proficient with precision measuring instruments.
