Job summary

Veeco Instruments Inc. in Plainview, NY, is seeking an Engineering Technician to join the Applications Lab. You will assist engineers to maintain and develop Veeco’s etch and deposition equipment and support daily lab operations.

The position requires hands-on technical ability, the skill to read schematics, and use high-precision test equipment; candidates typically have 2+ years of relevant experience, a high school diploma or GED, and preferably an associate degree in a technical field.

Qualifications

• Must have at least 2 years of hands-on experience in testing and troubleshooting complex systems.
• A minimum of a completed high school diploma or GED is required; an associate degree in technical engineering or a related technical field is preferred.
• An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Support engineering activities such as design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of electromechanical and vacuum systems
• Perform set up of processing equipment
• Provide technical assistance to process development and engineering personnel
• Read and follow various schematics, diagrams, and plans to perform set up, test and trouble‑shooting functions
• Diagnose and repair system performance issues using high precision electrical, optical and mechanical test equipment
• Perform maintenance of processing equipment

Overview

Veeco's process equipment solutions enable the manufacture of LEDs, displays, power electronics, compound semiconductors, hard disk drives, semiconductors, MEMS and wireless chips. We are the leader in MOCVD, MBE, Ion Beam, Wet Etch single wafer processing and other advanced thin film process technologies. We are currently looking for a Engineering Technician to work in a team environment to assist engineers to maintain and support development of Veeco’s etch and deposition equipment located in our Plainview Applications Lab as well as provide support to daily operations of the lab.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Hands‑on person, ability to assemble/disassemble complex parts and good troubleshooting skills
• Experience with prototyping/testing and test equipment
• Good organizational skills including time management
• Experience in high technology sector desirable
• Familiarity with vacuum equipment and wafer processing equipment is a plus
• Must be familiar with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point)
• Must have strong communication skills (verbal and written), and work in a team environment

Salary and Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is $58,687 - $78,250, plus a bonus opportunity. We will consider your location, experience, and other job‑related factors when determining your pay.
